The president and several well-known actors are in Missouri this weekend for campaigns.Just hours after signing the financial bailout package Friday, President George W. Bush was back on the fund-raising circuit. The president stopped first in St. Louis to raise money for Rep. Kenny Hulshof, who is running for Missouri governor.
The reception with 600 GOP donors was expected to raise $1.5 million. It took place at the St. Louis home of Steve Brauer, the former U.S. ambassador to Belgium.Hulshof rode to Missouri with Bush on Air Force One. It may have been a little uncomfortable, as Hulshof twice voted against the financial rescue plan that Bush had fiercely lobbied for all week.White House spokesman Scott Stanzel declined to comment on how Bush felt about that. He said the president supports Hulshof's election for governor. Also, three more Hollywood actors are headed to the University of Missouri-Columbia this weekend to stump for Democratic presidential candidate U.S. Sen. Barack Obama. The lineup consists of Taye Diggs of ABC's "Private Practice," wife Idina Menzel, who joined him in the Broadway and film versions of the musical "Rent," and actress Aisha Tyler, whose credits include the TV shows "Friends" and "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation."The actors will appear Saturday afternoon at Lowry Mall to encourage students to register to vote and to support their candidate. The appearance follows a similar one on campus last week by actor Don Cheadle.
