POSTED: 6:07 pm CDT April 13, 2004
UPDATED: 10:25 pm CDT April 13, 2004

Three people were shot Tuesday afternoon near East 72nd Street and Walrond Avenue, KMBC reported.

Ambulances and police responded to the scene around 5:30 p.m. A police spokesman said Gregory Boulevard was temporarily blocked off at the corners of Walrond and Bellefontaine avenues because of the shooting.

KMBC's Peggy Breit reported that two groups were at the scene when one group opened fire on the other.

Authorities recovered a rifle and handgun behind a home on College Avenue, which is one block east of Walrond.

The victims were transported to area hospitals, where their injuries were described as not life-threatening.
