Jackson County sheriff's deputies arrested two Lee's Summit teenagers in connection with a break-in at Hazel Grove Elementary School early Monday morning.

Deputies received an alarm call around 2 a.m. at the school and after arriving, one deputy heard someone trying to get out a door.

When one of the teens saw the deputy, he reportedly turned and ran inside the school and got out through a back door. After a short foot chase, deputies arrested a 16-year-old. A 17-year-old was also arrested, but was later released. Investigators said that the teen was not involved in the case. A second 16-year-old was apparently turned in to authorities by his parents.

The case has been turned over to juvenile authorities.

Investigators believe that the teens got into the school through the roof and broke windows and stole candy. Damage to the school is estimated between $3,000 and $5,000.
