Children In Protective Custody

UPDATED: 8:35 am CDT October 6, 2008

Police said a Missouri woman who didn't return her four children to state custody has been found in Olympia, Wash.

Authorities have been looking for Shirley Riggs since she and her children did not return to Indepedence on Sept. 20.

The Kansas City Star reported that Riggs was found Sunday afternoon at an Olympia motel. Her children ages 7, 10, 12 and 15 are safe and in protective custody.

Riggs disappeared a few days before she was scheduled to have a custody hearing. Police say she was afraid of losing her children. Authorities said it was the fourth time Riggs had left the state with the children.
