KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Seven years after a little girl's headless body was found in the woods in Kansas City, testimony is set to begin in the trial of her alleged killer.

The victim, 3-year-old Erica Green, became known to locals as "Precious Doe."

Jackson County prosecutors said Harrell Johnson, 29, was high on drugs when he knocked the child to the floor after she refused to go to bed. Johnson, along with the girls' mother, did not seek medical help as the girl lay dying for nearly 10 hours.

Prosecutors claim the couple eventually took the girl's body out of the house and that Johnson decapitated her and dumped the body in the woods.

The child's remains were found in 2001. She wasn't identified until 2005.

Johnson is charged with first-degree murder. Opening statements start Monday.
