Donna Pitman

A native of Independence, Mo., Donna Pitman graduated from the University of Missouri where she majored in journalism and earned a minor in Spanish. Donna began her reporting career on public radio at KBIA-FM in Columbia, Mo.

Soon after, Donna began working at KOMU-TV in Columbia. She was a "one-woman" band -- shooting, reporting, writing and editing her stories.

Donna spent nearly two-and-a-half years reporting and anchoring weekend newscasts at WHOI-TV in Peoria, IL. She returned to the Kansas City area to work at KMBC-TV. She is the co-anchor for "FirstNews" and her reporting can be seen during the KMBC 9 News at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.

"I'm lucky to have this job because I meet new and different people every day," says Donna. "I learn something new every day."

Donna has been recognized by The Kansas City Press Club for her work. Most recently, she and photojournalist Tim Twyman earned a Silver Award for a report on a Vietnam Veteran whose rehabilitation ended up helping hundreds of others affected by war. They were also nominated for an Emmy for the same story. See The Story

Donna is a member of the Permanent Memorial Day Committee in Kansas City that recognizes veterans of all wars throughout the year. She also serves on an advisory board for Harmony, speaks at several fundraisers and schools throughout the year and is involved in activities to support the Truman Library, a gem in her hometown of Independence.
